In Pessac right outside of Bordeaux is municipal donated land for a community garden. The group prepares the soil with organic and permaculture practices and has chosen not to be certified. Thirty-nine gardener member get a piece of land to build raise beds and fill with compost then plant seedlings according to a master gardener’s plan. The have a CSA box with their own harvest and added local farmers’ harvest weekly. One full time employee and everyone else is a volunteer. We had a delightful meal cooked on a wood energy saving J stove and then keep warm in insulated box recycled form of all things organ donor boxes. The food, from the vegetables, to the chicken, to the soup, to the dessert were garden sourced, except for the bread, spices and flour.
